I have been working on Monhegan for the past two weeks,
captivated by the breathing surf and rocky landscape. I'm reading the
book, Painting as Model by Yve-Alain Bois and reflecting on the color
theory of Matisse and Cezanne. Looking at Bernard Chaet, Grace Hartigan,
Milton Avery and painters who worked on Monhegan including Marsden
Hartley, Rockwell Kent, James Fitzgerald, and Edward Hopper. Below is a selection of my oil paintings created on location thus
far.
I am carving a addition of 10 lino-cut reduction prints each week. Each print is a series of 5-6 layers of color. The images are carved by studying completed paintings or directly from the landscape and printed with a wooden spoon in my studio.
