Rockport, Massachusetts

Last week I spent time painting in Rockport on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Massive granite rock, specifically in this location, has been an interest of mine the past two years. Below are a few of my works painted on location.

Summer Painting

The summer is passing quickly, but I have been able to spend much of my time painting outside. I have continued to work small on paper, creating studies for larger paintings.

Below are a few works from Bailey Island, where I have just started to explore its beautiful coastal light.

Towards the beginning of July, I traveled to Pond Island off the coast of Milbridge, Maine. This island is a favorite of mine to paint because of its remote location. There is a unique energy to this island, which bring about feelings of friendship, isolation, strength and integrity.

After a quick trip to Brooksville in July, I look forward to my return and more time spent exploring the coastal island communities of this Downeast area.

Painting Downeast

Below is recent work from Winter Harbor, Lamoine and Deer Isle, Maine. I had a productive week during my painting trip Downeast where Lamoine became my home base. Thank you to the Higgins Family!

A few of these works will be on display at the Yarmouth Clam Festival this Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 16th - 18th of July. This will be my fourth year participating in the Fine Art Show located on the Yarmouth Town Library Lawn. Stop by between 10am and 5pm if you are in town!

Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition

This Friday the 25th, from 6pm to 8pm, my MFA class at Boston University will be presenting the 5th annual Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition at 808 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. If you are in town, please stop by! This year we are including 80 emerging artist studying in MFA programs throughout New England. There will be over 150 works of art on display. If you are not able to join us at the opening, the show will be up until August 6th. I look forward to hearing your feedback! It's a must see "contemporary" show!

North Haven

I spent the last week in May painting on North Haven Island, which is 12 Miles off the coast of Rockland, Maine. This was my third year of retreat to the island. I revisited a few locations, but also discovered many views which were new to me this year.

News

Last Thursday night was the opening of the I-95 Triennial at the University of Maine Museum of Art, in which I had two pieces. Here is a link to the show and to the review in Yankee Magazine.

Just two weeks away from completing my second semester in grad school. The students ahead of me are currently displaying their thesis work at the 808 Gallery on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston.

Taped Landscapes

Over the past few weeks, I have been painting the lines of my weaving on my canvases. Juxtaposed to the organic tree shapes, the stripes add an architectural quality to my recent work. I will be showing the following paintings in my final critique on April 26th.

By reusing the tape from my painted canvases, I am working on creating new linear compositions.
