Collage

In the coming months, I will be participating in a show at the University of New Hampshire's Museum of Art. ReView: Recent work by UNH Alumni, will hold its opening reception on Friday, January 28th, 5-7pm and will be on view until April 2011.

Turning indoors, I have been working from still life. Below is a series of collage drawings created from one full size drawing which was the study for this painting.

Outdoor Painting

Towards the later part of October into November and December I spent time painting outside on canvases ranging from 2.5' square to 3' x 4.5'. These paintings were completed in Portland, Maine, Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Bristol Maine

Towards the middle of October, my graduate class visited our professor John Walker's home in Bristol, Maine. For the full week, we painted outdoors in the sun, rain and fog. It was a wonderful experience and I feel as a result, my painting became more loose and color specific.

New Work

I began this semester in the studio by painting from summer paintings on larger canvas. Below are three images which are painted loosely from summer studies.

While working on the large scale paintings, I decided I needed to work from life again. I began to paint from quilts made towards the end of last summer.

Rockport, Massachusetts

Last week I spent time painting in Rockport on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Massive granite rock, specifically in this location, has been an interest of mine the past two years. Below are a few of my works painted on location.

Summer Painting

The summer is passing quickly, but I have been able to spend much of my time painting outside. I have continued to work small on paper, creating studies for larger paintings.

Below are a few works from Bailey Island, where I have just started to explore its beautiful coastal light.

Towards the beginning of July, I traveled to Pond Island off the coast of Milbridge, Maine. This island is a favorite of mine to paint because of its remote location. There is a unique energy to this island, which bring about feelings of friendship, isolation, strength and integrity.

After a quick trip to Brooksville in July, I look forward to my return and more time spent exploring the coastal island communities of this Downeast area.
